Money Talks e-Newsletter by Mauritz Oberholzer

Happy October! I hope you are enjoying the warmer weather and the beautiful trees and flowers coming alive after the winter months.

Keeping Calm When Markets Get Choppy

You've probably noticed markets have been bumpy lately, especially here at home. Headlines are loud, and it's easy to feel nervous about your investments. That's normal, but the bigger picture is more reassuring than the last few weeks might suggest.

Where things stand

SA equities have had a rough month, but zoom out and the picture changes. Over three and five years, every asset class has delivered solid annual returns, and global markets have been strong this year. That's exactly why we spread your money across different areas: when one zigs, another zags.

Why staying put matters

Markets go through rough patches. They always have. The people who get hurt most are usually those who sell in a panic, lock in their losses, and then miss the recovery. Time in the market beats trying to time the market.

Two legends of investing said it better than I can:

"Be fearful when others are greedy, and greedy when others are fearful." – Warren Buffett
"The big money is not in the buying and selling, but in the waiting." – Charles Munger

What I'd suggest

Stick to the plan we built together

Avoid checking your portfolio every day (it won't help your sleep!)

Keep investing consistently if you can

Reach out if anything has changed in your life or goals

If you're feeling uneasy, I'm here for that. Give me a shout, and we'll chat it through.

Past performance is not a guarantee of future returns. This newsletter is for general information and isn't personal financial advice.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Breast cancer is one of the most prevalent cancers and, unfortunately, is becoming more common among younger females.

This October, make sure you have adequate cover in place and also get preventative testing.

If you are unsure if your cover is adequate, let’s schedule a meeting and discuss your unique needs.
