Happy October, we are heading to the end of the year with lightning speed and I think with the season changing everyone is feeling a bit more positive.
South Africa has been seeing some good things happen lately and I just wanted to highlight some positives of the past few weeks and months: We have seen almost 28 weeks of no loadshedding. We have had 5 consecutive petrol price decreases which is now over R4.5 per litre cut in 2024 alone. We saw the first prime interest rate cut of 0.25% in September. The inflation rate seems to be coming down and settled on 4.4% in August and we hope this trajectory will continue. The private sector and government collaboration seems to be having some great success (see info below). |

New and exciting updates and launches |

The end of the year also marks the time of the year when a lot of companies update their products and also make changes to some of them, so I thought I would highlight some of the most exciting and important ones:
Liberty has relaunched its retrenchment protector which can provide an income of up to 6 months if you get retrenched. Discovery’s Wealth Fund is set to become a more permanent offering (will be called Health Fund) on their medical aid offering up to an additional R10 000 risk funded benefits for medical expenses. Discovery Vitality Insure rating, will assist in increasing your car resale value up to 15%. Discovery launched their newest Investment tranche option where you can get up to 200% boost if the investment is flat or up 1% after the 5 year term.

Medical Aid Updates 2025 |  |

Lastly the medical aids in SA are publishing their new rates and updates for 2025 with Momentum and Discovery increasing on average 9.4% and Discovery at 9.3% (with most plans being on 8.4%) which is below the other big medical schemes: Bestmed 12.75% Medihelp 10.8% Bonitas 10.2%
